Hope for egg allergy sufferers…

I have often bought a brand of biscuits called “Livwell” for Cathal, as there is no egg in them and he can tolerate them perfectly as an occasional treat.

They disappeared from the shelves of SuperValu and I couldn’t find them anywhere for about 4 months. Then, they appeared again – hurray! said Cathal. Imagine my horror, when after giving him one, and he had eaten it, I casually looked at the ingredients on the packet, only to discover that there was now egg listed! So, I waited for him to react and this is what normally happens  – first he scratches his tongue, then he gets a rash around his mouth, then he vomits, all in a matter of about a minute. Then his eyes start to swell, little blisters appear, his stomach swells up, and I know if I don’t react with treatment, his eczema will reappear.

HOWEVER! He didn’t react. I couldn’t believe it, and then I found this interesting article, which may be the reason that he didn’t react….
